For a journalist, it can be hard to write a caption for a photo. Often at times, the caption ends up being an obvious explanation of the image. Intersemiotic redundancies and intersemiotic repetition are captions that restate what is happening in the photo without further explanation.
Far too many times we see this throughout photojournalism today. It is important that journalist use intersemiotic expansion as a technique when writing photo captions. Intersemiotic expansion allows for the obvious meanings in photos to speak for themselves, this way the caption can focus on something from that story that is not evident from the photo.
